Machine Shop Closeouts
Full shop inventories bought, inspected, and resold with condition and lot detail intact — so you are never buying blind.
A domestic sourcing lane, not a discount bin
When a shop closes, consolidates, or cancels a job, the tooling that was bought for it does not stop being production-grade. It stops being needed. We buy those inventories outright, count and grade every piece, and resell them as documented lots — carbide inserts, end mills, drills, taps, toolholders, and inspection gear.
The reason this matters more in 2027 than it did five years ago is landed cost. New imported tooling now carries Section 232 metals surcharges on full customs value regardless of origin. A domestic closeout purchase largely sidesteps that exposure, because the duty was either already paid once or never applied. We broke the math down in our industrial surplus buying strategy for 2027.
Everything we list ships from Wisconsin. No import lead time, no customs hold, no duty line appearing after the quote.

440-966-1177How we grade every piece
A supplier who cannot document condition is not offering an alternative to new — they are offering risk with a discount attached. These are the only four grades we use, and the grade is set after counting, not before.
New — Sealed
Factory packaging unopened, original labels and grade markings intact. Typical of overstock and cancelled-order tooling.
New — Open Box
Package opened or repacked, tooling itself unused. Counts verified piece by piece before the lot is listed.
Unused Surplus
Pulled from a shop that closed or changed jobs before the tooling ran. No wear on cutting edges or tapers.
Inspected Used
Run previously, checked for runout, wear, and damage. Listed with what we found, never described as new.
Lots available today
Counted, graded, and photographed. Buy the listing outright or ask us to price the whole lot — both go to the same desk.

What a closeout lot looks like
Full shop inventories
Complete tool cribs from closing or consolidating shops — inserts, end mills, drills, taps, holders, and measuring gear acquired as one purchase.
Single-category lots
One family at volume: a pallet of CNMG inserts, a crib of CAT 40 holders, a drawer set of jobber drills in graduated sizes.
Cancelled and overstock orders
Production tooling ordered for a job that never ran. Sealed, current-generation, and priced well under list.
Toolholders and workholding
CAT 40/50, HSK, BT, collet chucks, vises, and fixturing from closeouts — functionally identical to new stock at a fraction of landed cost.
Buying or clearing — same four steps
Tell us what you need — or what you are clearing

We inspect and document
Every piece is counted and graded before anything is quoted or listed. Nothing gets described as unused unless it is.
Firm price on the lot
Buyers get lot and per-piece pricing with comparable list. Sellers get a cash offer, free pickup on large lots.
Ships from Wisconsin
Stocked lots ship same day. Domestic inventory means no import lead time and no duty surprise on the invoice.
Tell us the lot you want — or the crib you are clearing
We reply within one business hour, 8am–5pm Central, Monday through Friday. No account setup, no portal, no automated runaround.
- Looking for a category at volume? Name the grade, geometry, or size range.
- Clearing a shop? Free pickup on large lots, cash offer on the whole crib.
- Have a spreadsheet or PO instead? Send it through Quick Order.
Machine shop closeouts: common questions
About buying machine shop closeout tooling
Machine shop closeouts are complete or partial tool inventories released when a shop closes, merges, moves, or finishes a program it bought tooling for. Because the tooling was specified for real production, a closeout lot usually contains current-generation carbide inserts, solid carbide and cobalt end mills, jobber and carbide drills, taps, reamers, indexable holders, and inspection equipment from brands a shop already trusts.
The purchasing case rests on three things: price against list, condition you can verify, and lead time. Domestic closeout inventory wins on all three when it is documented properly — which is why we publish piece counts, condition grades, and provenance on every lot instead of describing everything as “new surplus” and leaving the buyer to find out later.
Midwest Industrial Supply & Surplus is an online-only supplier shipping nationwide from Wisconsin. We buy full shop inventories, grade them, and resell them at up to 70% off list. If your own shop is carrying idle tooling, the same desk handles bulk buyback with free pickup — turning dead inventory into capital for the next purchase.
